Based on a popular Japanese manga this historical epic centres on a battle during China's Warring States period is like a combination of Hero and Seven Samurai . A mercenary who believes in universal love, Ge Li, is an unlikely hero, but he comes to the aid of Liang, a city besieged by the far superior Zhao army. Well-directed with many well-filmed battle scenes, there's a strong anti-war theme as the hero does what he must to defend the people but only reluctantly accepts the necessity for violence.
